Australian Capital Territory Education Services (ACTIES) is the registered business name under the Canberra Islamic Centre and a key initiative of the Saba Al Ahmad Masjid and Education Centre.

ACTIES is delivering Islamic Education to Muslim students in government schools in the ACT through a highly developed and tailored Syllabus delivered by volunteer teachers.

Working with the Islamic Council of NSW (ICNSW) and Australian Islamic Education Services (AIES) ACTIES collaborates for the benefit of the broader Australian society in the provision of Islamic Religious Education in the ACT.

ACTIES acknowledges the ICNSW and the AIES who have had many years’ experience teaching Islamic scripture in NSW public schools. The ACTIES pilot delivery model and Syllabus is based on the ISRE program which is used across 300 schools by 700 volunteer teachers in NSW.

ACTIES Program

Currently ACTIES is undertaking a pilot program in three pilot public schools – Neville Bonner Primary, Amaroo School and Gungahlin College.  In 2024 the program will expand to an additional 10 schools across ACT.

Following new schools will commence in 2024:

Caroline Chisholm School, Garran Primary, Melrose High School, Canberra College, Evelyn Scott School, Gold Creek School, Harrison School, Lyneham High, Telopea Park and Charles Conder Primary.

Volunteers 

The program relies heavily on volunteer teachers who are supported through regular training and development.

Volunteers are also involved in other roles including: 

• Executive members 
• Administration- Team leaders and supervisors 
• Database maintaince 
• IT support
